Litter Prevention

Fayetteville Beautiful’s mission is to encourage citizens to maintain a cleaner and more beautiful city. Through a network of engaged individuals, agencies, and organizations we promote waste reduction and recycling, beautification projects, and litter awareness and prevention.

  • Organizing the annual Citywide Cleanup; this year it is Saturday, April 1, 2017. Nearly 1,000 individuals will join hands to pick up litter on more than 300 miles of Fayetteville streets.  This will be the 13th Citywide Cleanup where nearly 11,487 volunteers have picked up 136+ tons of trash.
  • Partnering throughout the year with youth, churches, Units assigned to Fort Bragg, as well as other groups to remove litter from our streets.
  • Coordinating the Clean Sweep of streams such as the Cross Creek and Lake Rim.
  • Working with Master Gardener volunteers to annually assess the litter on our streets so as to target areas needing attention.  The Litter Index measures the litter geographically spread over 65 miles of roadside.  Current Litter Index is 1.62 on a scale of 1 – 4.
